Field pre-test of the draft Maternal and Child Health Handbook took place in Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces
The 4-year technical cooperation project, namely “Project for Improving Continuum of Care for Mothers and Children through
the utilization of MCH Handbook" commenced in mid-April 2025 in collaboration between the Ministry of Health and Population and JICA. It aims to develop an effective model to improve the provision of high-quality continuum of maternal and child health care services by introducing the integrated MCH Handbook.
A draft handbook was developed under the leadership of the Family Welfare Division of the Department of Health Services, in collaboration with development partners, including UNICEF and JICA. The field pretest took place in Gandaki and Lumbini Provinces from the end of October to the beginning of November 2025.
The draft MCH Handbook was tested among key user groups, including (1) pregnant women, lactating mothers, caregivers and family members, (2) Female Community Health Volunteers, (3) Health Workers, and (4) Officials of provincial, district, and local governments. We have gathered many insightful feedback and productive input from the participants to make the handbook more user-friendly. We will be incorporating the feedback and moving toward finalising the handbook. Thank you to everyone who contributed!
