Participation in the Scientific Conference on Nursing and Midwifery

On March 20 and 22, 2023, CBNS-II participated in the Scientific Conference on Nursing and Midwifery Education and Services, organized by the project counterpart, the Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM). This was the first academic conference on the theme of nursing and midwifery held in Bangladesh. The conference was divided into two days. Day 1 was dedicated to nursing and midwifery education, and Day 2 to nursing and midwifery services, with oral and poster presentation sessions. More than 300 participants, including researchers, practitioners and nursing and midwifery faculties and students, attended the conference.

CBNS-II was invited as one of the partner organizations/projects working with the DGNM. It was the first time for us to participate in an academic conference in Bangladesh, and it was very interesting to see the enthusiasm of DGNM and other stakeholders to promote research on nursing and midwifery and the seriousness of the presenters everywhere in the venue. Presentations were made in English under strict time management, and the quality of the presentations exceeded expectations. The local consultant of CBNS-II served as a panelist for one of the oral presentation sessions. We were impressed by how enthusiastically the presenters answered the comments of the panelists, including our local consultant, and questions from the audience.

The project promotes research among college lecturers, clinical nurses, and nursing students as an activity to strengthen nursing education. So far, we have supported the establishment of research committees at the target nursing colleges, and to start full-scale activities, we have visited the Dhaka College of Nursing, which was the target of Phase 1, and the National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research (NIANER), a higher education and research institution for nursing, to identify ways to promote nursing research. Our participation in the Scientific Conference on Nursing and Midwifery gave us a full understanding of the current situation of nursing research and the existing resources, which provided us with many further hints on how to promote our activities. This scientific conference will be held regularly, once a year; therefore, we would like to continue cooperating with the subsequent conferences.
