From Idea to Action: Harnessing the Potential of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in Africa Development

August 29, 2019

The Future of Africa Driven by STI

Africa welcomes "leapfrog" development in which Africa will jump over the development process the developed countries have traditionally taken. It is the STI (Science, Technology, and Innovation) that is making the phenomena possible.

The target year of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is 2030. The international community points out that it is necessary to promote social transformation through STI with collaboration of the public and private sectors such as companies and governments in order to achieve the SDGs in Africa.

JICA partnered with the World Bank and the UN Development Program (UNDP) to host a side event during the Seventh Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD7) on the theme of STI, held on August 29, 2019. The aim was to draw on the driving force of STI for the development and solution to Africa's challenges.
