In Republic of Albania, the economic bases is vulnerable due to the effects of the economic lag caused by the controlled economy and isolationism during the communist period. Furthermore, since 2008, financial and fiscal crisis and accompanying recession in EU have taken their toll on the country's economic and fiscal situation. The government of Albania sets the integration to EU as the country's priority but still has challenges in the field of restructuring of the legal system and abatement of corruptions and organized crimes although it has Because stability and development in Albania would contribute to stability in the Balkan region where the situation is fluid, it is important to assist efforts for development and reform and to take initiatives for sustainable and stable development. JICA provide assistance in its cooperation schemes primarily in the areas of agriculture, infrastructure development, medical care, education and the environment.
