Project for Cleaner Production in the Steel Industry

Background and Objective

Photo

The objective of this project is to familiarize the Institute of Steel of Argentina (Instituto Argentino de Siderurgia or IAS) with cleaner production technologies, so they can in turn introduce the technologies to domestic steel manufacturers and related industries. This will spread cleaner production technologies through the country.

  • Record of Discussions signed on: November 24, 2008
  • Amount of Assistance: 53 million yen
  • Executing Agency: Institute of Steel of Argentina (Instituto Argentino de Siderurgia or IAS)

Project Summary

Photo

Under this project, basic technologies for processing steel manufacturing materials and general knowledge on cleaner production technologies will be transferred to IAS management and engineers through training in Japan as well as Japanese experts dispatched to Argentina. With IAS personnel knowledgeable about basic cleaner production technologies for the steel industry, the technologies will then spread to related industries.

Project Highlights

Technology for recycling dust and sludge, which are produced in each stage of the steel manufacturing processes, will be transferred to IAS engineers in training in Japan. Additionally, Japanese experts will provide instruction in Argentina, assisting with acquisition of the technology as well as preparing instruction manuals and other training materials. As IAS will grow to understand the utility of cleaner production for the steel industry, they will hold technical presentations to related industries, deepening the familiarity of cleaner production in Argentina.
