Period : March 2006 to March 2009
Counterpart Organisations : (Central Government)
• Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees
• Municipality of Srebrenica

JICA is implementing a community development project in Srebrenica, a town close to border with Serbia. The project aims not only to strengthen the foundation for economic self-sufficiency as a means of promoting the repatriation of refugees and internally displaced persons but also to foster ethnic reconciliation through interethnic activities. One JICA long-term expert makes use of the services of local non-governmental organisations to provide cooperation for activities like herb cultivation, bee keeping, joint farm equipment use, and other schemes in which two ethnic groups work together.

JICA’s programs target families headed by women and the war injured as well as repatriated families, and this project has been appreciated by local residents as unique activities rooted in local conditions that are different from programmers of other donors.
