A thriving industry before the war, tourism is being viewed with interest in Bosnia and Herzegovina as one of a few sectors with growth potential, since the country is blessed with a lush natural environment, valuable historical relics, and other resources. Ecotourism, meanwhile, offers a strategy for balancing the goal of preserving the environment and historical relics with community development, including the creation of jobs over the long term, and sustainable city and town design. Recognising this, JICA is undertaking a technical cooperation project that grew out of development study undertaken from July 2003 to March 2005 and a plan for sustainable regional development it drew up on the basis of this.
