The 2012 JICA training was centered on Learner Centered Approach lesson. I discovered that to implement a learner centered approach, there are two key important words to consider Hitsuzensei (Necessity) and Iyoku (Motivation). These two key words are used by Japanese teachers to successfully deliver their lesson.

To achieve the aim of a lesson, learners must discover new idea or new knowledge and it is Necessity and Motivation that will make learners to reach these goals. Throughout the course of the training, these two key words has been my guiding principle and even when I was given opportunity to teach at an elementary school in Japan, it was necessity and motivation that helped me to achieve the goal. At the end of the lesson, a learner said, "I never knew there was another material used to test for acids and alkali".

These two key are words are cardinal point or compass to a successful lesson delivery. Without necessity and motivation no effective learning will take place.

Necessity and motivation, I discovered will be an operational tool for teachers in my country that will give learners a task in every lesson.

The world is being driven by science and technology and my country quest to be among the first 20 most developed nations by the year 2020. When I heard of this these two key words, I said to myself this is a key to our economic and technological development to meet up with our vision 20 2020.

To every Japanese teacher, when observing lessons they look out for these two key words, was there any necessity in the lesson and has the teacher motivated learners?

Necessity and motivation can restore the loss of interest children and teachers have in science and mathematics in my country.

Necessity gives them the reason why they should study science and motivation drives them to come up with new discovery or idea.

Necessity creates a critical thinking in their minds and motivation makes them speak out their idea.

Necessity helps them to develop enquiry skills and motivation let them build up problem solving technique.

Necessity infuses self confidence in learners and motivation stimulates critical mind.

I have developed the knowledge of necessity and motivation in my mind and will share them with other colleagues in my country for a positive change towards science and mathematics.
