Also known as the Egyptian-Japanese Friendship Bridge, the Suez Canal Bridge symbolizes the close relationship between Japan and Egypt, and aims to bring the two countries even closer. It is also known as the Peace Bridge. The total cost of the construction was 22.5 billion yen. The Japanese government financed 13.5 billion yen (approximately 113 million US dollars) or 60% of the total cost with grant money. The remaining 9 billion yen (approximately 75 million US dollars) was financed by the Egyptian government.
