First Aid Training Course

Project Background:
National Fire Authority Fiji Island (NFA) became responsible of the emergency ambulance services after it was outsourced to them by the Cabinet late last year from Ministry of Health run ambulance service, St. John's Bridge and other organizations. NFA being in the preparatory stage required First Aid Training, including methods of transporting patients as one of the most important place of the emergency service. NFA requested Matsusaka Area Firefighting Association to help implement the technical training of First Aid.

JICA being the executing agency for Japan's ODA, took up the initiative to implement the project entitled "First Aid Training Course" under JICA Partnership Program in collaboration with Matsusaka Area Firefighting Association.

Matsusak Area Firefighting Association from Japan is not new to Fiji and NFA Training Program with JICA. They were also in-charge of 2008 "Flood and Swift Water Rescue Operations Training" using the Flood Rescue Equipment donated by Matsusaka Area Firefighting Association and JICA in 2008.

Project Period:
14th of November 2010 till 15th of December 2010

Project Budget:
4.5 million Yen (approximately FJ$100,000)

Target Area:
Suva, Nadi and Labasa

Target Group:
Staff members of NFA headquarters and staff members selected from each fire station

Project Purpose:
Is to ensure that the Fire Fighter master the method of transporting patients as the first step of implementing emergency service.

Expected Output:

  1. The staff of NFA headquarters and each fire station at which this training is implemented should master the First Aid including the method of transporting patients
  2. The participants should master the training procedures of the First Aid including method of transporting patients
  3. The participants should prepare the manuals of the First Aid including methods of transporting patients.
