Training in Japan

Who is Eligible?

JICA training courses are generally focused on technical skills which target the training of technicians, researchers and administrators in the recipient country. Applicants should be nominated by the Government of Fiji (applicant's line Ministry and the Public Service Commission (PSC). Invitations for courses are sent to PSC to be circulated to relevant government organizations.

Courses organized by JICA are intended for government officials, staff of corporatized government organizations, statutory bodies, universities, research institutes and government education institutions. NGO and private sector staff are also eligible to apply if nominated by the Government.

The qualification requirements for applicants vary from course to course. Interested applicants are encouraged to refer to the course outline for details. However, the minimum requirement set by PSC is that the applicant must hold a permanent confirmed post with the Government.

Other basic conditions required:

  • Applicant should be a Fiji Citizen
  • Application is subject to the approval of the Fiji Government
  • Sufficient command of English both in spoken and written
  • Physically fit and healthy to undergo training
  • Non military personnel, or working in the Ministry of Defense
  • In principal, applicant is not allowed to reschedule the duration of the course nor the course contents or to extend their stay after the training
  • No family members should accompany the participant to the course
  • The candidate is not permitted to reroute the return flight without a valid official purpose
  • The candidate is not permitted to be involved in political activities or engaged in any form of employment during course
  • All rules and regulations of the place of accommodation must be observed
