Project for Rehabilitation of National Trunk Road N8

PhotoBefore construction: Swamps prevented vehicles from travelling.

Name: Project for Rehabilitation of National Trunk Road N8

Scheme: Grant Aid

Period: August 2010 - December 2013

Background

* The "Ghana Shared Growth and Development Agenda (GSGDA)" sees the road network as one of the key factors for the regional economic integration.

* Ghana's exported items are largely transported between economic blocs around Kumasi and Takoradi.

* Japan completed the construction of National Trunk Road N8 in 1994 by ODA loan (176km), but the rapid increase of traffic volume in line with economic growth deteriorated the road condition and the Government of Ghana requested the rehabilitation. Japan selected 60km to be urgently rehabilitated for the priority phase.
