Name: Project for the Introduction of Clean Energy by Solar Electricity Generation System

Scheme: Grant Aid

Period: June 2012 - August 2014

Component: Solar modules (720kW), power conditioners, operation room, monitor for PV system promotion, and training for operation and maintenance of the solar system.

Background

* In 2008, Japan initiated the Cool Earth Partnership, to assist developing countries to achieve both economic growth and climate stability.

* The Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System is defined important for renewable energy, diversification of energy, and utilisation of limited natural resources in the "Strategic National Energy Plan 2006-2020 (SNEP)".

Objectives

* To promote clean energy utilisation and achieve emissions reductions.

Activities

* Construction of PV system at Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR), University of Ghana.

* Solar modules (315kW) have been installed and are in operation. Other solar modules (405kW) are under construction.

PhotoSolar panels: generation at the completion of the first phase is 315kWh.

PhotoMonitor at the control room: generated power is utilised at the University of Ghana.
