On September 28 2018 an earthquake struck Central Sulawesi province, caused a tsunami that hit Palu Bay coastal area, and soil liquefaction in areas in and around Palu. Nearly fifteen thousand people were victimized by this disaster, with over than 110,000 houses were destroyed, and 170,000 people were forced to evacuate. Soon after the disaster occurred, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) dispatched emergency response assistance and then team to conduct a field survey on the affected areas. Then starting from January 2019, conduct ‘Project for Development of Regional Disaster Risk Resilience Plan in Central Sulawesi' to support the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the particularly damaged areas, such Palu, Sigi, and Donggala.

This September, almost one year since the disaster, while the reconstruction process of the affected areas has been progressing steadily. Japanese NPO FMYY, who is implementing partner of JICA Partnership Program ‘Enhancement of Disaster Risk Reduction Capacities Utilizing Community Radios on the Basis of Government-Residents', local Non-Profit Organization; SKP-HAM, will conduct music live performance and talk shows by Hiroaki Kato in the affected areas. During the live performance and talk show, Hiroaki Kato will introduce JICA's support toward the reconstruction of Central Sulawesi, disaster risk reduction, and creating a resilient society based on Japan's core value on disaster risk reduction, ‘Build Back Better'.
