Activities in Iran

5 Priority Fields

Enhancement of Domestic Industries and Vocational Training

To address the challenges facing Iran's economy, especially the private sector, JICA is focusing on the "enhancement of domestic industries" and "employment countermeasures."

For example, a relatively small investment and short-term training would help enhance Iran's domestic tourist industry, which already benefits from the country's many tourist attractions. JICA therefore invites Iranian policymakers in the tourism industry to take related training courses in Japan.

Unemployment, particularly among youth and women, is also one of most serious issues to be considered in Iran. This is one of the issues emphasized in the Fourth Five-Year Development Plan of Iran. JICA is trying to transfer to Iran its experiences in training manpower.

Project on the Improvement of Audio-visual Aids and Instruction Methods in the Vocational Training at the Instructor Training Center (ITC)

This project involved the technical transfer of methods for preparing audio-visual materials (including the preparation of scenarios, photographic techniques, and editing for video production) in the Instructor Training Center, a facility that trains instructors for vocational training schools. A large number of videos have been prepared through this project.

Also, the pedagogy for vocational training was transferred by JICA experts. (The cooperation period is from June 1 from 2002 to May 31, 2006)

Project on Strengthening Technical & Vocational Training Management Skills in the Technical and Vocational Training Organization (TVTO)

The improvement of the TVTO's training management capacity is the objective set for this project. After the execution of this project, TVTO will be able to respond to the training needs of the labor market more efficiently; TVTO develops, reviews and updates the standards of the training courses and improves its monitoring and evaluation system. The project will be carried out in two phases during a period of three and a half years. Phase 1, which will continue for two years, will aim to strengthen the training management of TVTO by introducing a tentative system. Phase 2 will focus on the monitoring, evaluation and consolidation of the tentative system, which was proposed in phase 1.
(The cooperation period is three years and a half from April 2007)
