Water Resources Management

Nowadays, an increase in Iran's population and rising water demand in the industrial and agricultural fields requires an optimum use of existing water and the development of water resources in Iran.

The Study on Integrated Water Resources Management for Sefidrud River Basin

The Sefidrud River basin is one of the largest river basins that cover in the northwest part of Iran. The total area of the basin is about 64,000 square kilometers, which extends through seven provinces.

Despite a severe limitation of water, a number of water development plans are being implemented, operated, designed or under study in order to meet increasing and wide ranging water demands such as for irrigation, industry or domestic purposes. Furthermore, the basin needs to conserve a certain amount of water to maintain ecosystems, including Ramsar convention wetlands and fisheries. The total water volume of the aggregated development plans of the basin far exceeds the volume of natural water flow. Therefore, introduction of Integrated Water Resources Management of the basin is desirable

Water Resources Expert

The JICA expert works in the Water Resource Management Company that is under the Water Deputy of Iran's Ministry of Energy. Among the goals are to present expertise advices and to assist water specialist for establishment an integrated water resource management system in Iran.
