Project on Development of Integrated System for Prevention and Early Warning of Forest Fires

Background of the Project :

Fires in general are considered to be serious risk and hazard for causing crisis situations, which indicates the need for timely, planned and coordinated institutional and other measures and activities. The number of fires is constantly increasing through years and is recognized as risk that is also confirmed not only at national, but also on the regional and international level. Forest fires are especially considered to be the highest risk and hazard for both peaceful life of residents and conservation of nature, not only in North Macedonia but also neighboring states.

By the request of the Government of North Macedonia, JICA has started the technical cooperation project for the purpose of strengthening the capacity of CMC for prevention and early warning of forest fires.

  • Project type : Technical Cooperation Project
  • Project objective : Capacity of Crisis Management Center for transmitting information to domestic relevant institutions for prevention and early warning of forest fire and coordinating them is strengthened.
  • Project sites : Skopje
  • Duration : May 2011 − May 2014
  • Executing Organization : Crisis Management Center (CMC)
  • Outputs
    1) National system for forest fire risk assessment is developed.
    2) National coordination mechanism of information sharing and cooperation among domestic relevant institutions for prevention and early warning of forest fires is reinforced.
