North Macedonia, whose basic policy goal is the accession to EU and NATO, sets economic development as the utmost priority. Initiatives are being taken to stimulate domestic industry and attract Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) through preferential tax measures, democratization and improvements in the business environment. The Eurozone Crisis caused a drop in exports and FDI, but the economy overall is recovering thanks to the effects of fiscal consolidation and World Bank loans. JICA's support to North Macedonia primarily focuses on: 1) Development of Environmental Infrastructure and Enhancement of the Management Capacity, and 2) Development of the Private Sector.
