Liberal Arts Education Workshop held at E-JUST

E-JUST LACC hosted a 2-day Liberal Arts Education Workshop held by Dr. Mayumi Terano on November 21 and November 22. Dr. Mayumi Terano is a JICA Expert for Ministry of Higher Education, Former JICA E-JUST Project Academic Advisor in charge of Liberal Arts Education, Professor (Part time) at College of International Management in Ristumeikan Asia Pacific University.

The objectives of this workshop includes knowing the history, theory, practice and current trend of Liberal Arts Education in the world, and sharing within LACC the original concept of E-JUST Liberal Arts Education through knowing its development process and social context, as well as discussing the possible expansion of E-JUST Liberal Arts Education in the current social and E-JUST context. E-JUST LACC Faculty Members and LACC Language instructors including English and Japanese Language have attended the workshop.

During the first day on November 21, E-JUST President Prof. Amr Adly and LACC Director Prof. Adel El Senn gave opening remarks and warmly welcomed Dr. Terano. A self-introduction session was made by Dr. Terano as well as the attending LACC Faculty Members and Language Instructors. Then Dr. Terano presented two lectures where the first lecture titled “Basic Theory and History of general Liberal Arts Education” included the basic theory of Liberal Arts, the difference between General and Liberal Arts Education, and Distinctions among disciplines (natural science, social science, arts and humanities). The second lecture titled “Concept of E-JUST Liberal Arts Education at Development Stage” included how it is positioned and the necessary considerations, past Japan missions, and subsequent development.

During the second day on November 22, a discussion session was held between Dr. Terano and the attending LACC Faculty Members and Language Instructors, debating about the current challenges faced in implementing the Liberal Arts Education in E-JUST, as well as the suggested solutions and possible directions. The session also included possible expansion of Liberal Arts Education at E-JUST.

During the closing of the session, Dr. Haytham El Sayed gifted Dr. Terano the first outcome and product of the LACC, the Ronri game created by Dr. Haytham. This workshop will help LACC Faculty Members enhance the Liberal Arts Education at E-JUST and meet the current challenges using the solutions discussed. JICA E-JUST Project will cooperate with EJUST to continue promoting the importance of Liberal Arts Courses within the University, seek future Developments of the Liberal Arts Education and contribute to establishing pioneering students.
