Clinical Nurse Teacher Training Begins at Collaborative Hospitals outside of Dhaka

Clinical Nurse Teacher (CNT) training in regional cities outside of Dhaka began at the end of 2024. The first regional site was Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH), the main clinical practice training hospital of Mymensingh Nursing College and one of the two first target collaborative hospitals as well as Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in Dhaka ^*1 .

The baseline survey conducted at the beginning of this project showed that MMCH was one of the most difficult sites among the eight target collaborative hospitals, and that it would take time and effort to improve the situation. Despite this situation, the Mymensingh team was very motivated, both on the college side and the hospital side. The hospital team took the lead in implementing the CNT training this time, preparing the training venue, requesting cooperation from the Mymensingh Nursing College lecturers and Master Trainers (MTs) from other target hospitals, reviewing the training content, preparing training materials, presentations, equipment and items and so on. The project team members mainly supported remotely to the hospital team although they have gain skills to prepare the training by themselves. As a result, the CNT training at MMCH was very well received by the participants, and each participant was very actively involved in the group work and practical skills training. The CNT training in Mymensingh was also visited by Directorate General of Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM) DG, which may have motivated the participants as well.

Out of total of 20 participants, 16 passed the pre-post-test straight through. The remaining 4 participants will be retested and followed up. In addition, the plan is to benefit other nurses by providing them with in-service training on a ward-by-ward basis.
