The 3rd Training Program in Japan

A 28-day training program was held in Japan from 18 February to 16 March for 18 young leaders at the level of director-general, deputy director-general and director from 13 provinces and 1 centrally run Cities in Vietnam.

The Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) and Meiji University continue to implement the training program.

After attending lectures on topics that are of great interest to administrators, such as Japanese politics and administration, urban planning and community development, and local government management, the participants visited local governments and private enterprises in Tokyo, Chiba, Kanagawa, and Shizuoka prefectures. The participants further deepened their understanding of local autonomy and local governance in Japan by exchanging opinions with mayors, senior local government officials and officers.

In a survey conducted at the end of the training, participants shared comments such as “I got some ideas from the Hometown Tax Donation Program (Furusato Nozei)”, “I want to work towards providing better quality public services after returning from Japan”, and “The training made me realize the importance of long-term perspectives in urban planning and community development”.

The relationships between the participant, strengthened through spending about a month together in Japan, are expected to continue through the exchange of information. It is also expected that each participant will go on to become a leader in their respective regions.
