The 6th training in Japan was held
From February 9 to March 8, 2025, a total of 15 young leaders at the deputy director-general and director level from 11 provinces and 3 centrally-run cities in Vietnam participated in a 28-day training in Japan.
The training was organized in cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Center (JICE) and Meiji University, and the program consisted of lectures, site visit, report presentations and discussions.
All participants participated in the same training program, but were divided into two groups. Each group was assigned four themes based on participants’ interests, and they presented what they had learned during the training and how they planned to apply it after returning home at the final report session.
Group A worked on the themes of "Administrative Reform and Decentralization in Japan," "Urban Development," "Tourism Policy in Japanese Cities," and "Digital Transformation (DX)," while Group B focused on "Personnel Administration," "Waste Management and Garbage Disposal," "Local Finance," and "DX."
In addition to attending lectures, the participants visited a total of 10 sites, including local governments and private sector entities located in Tokyo, Kanagawa, Chiba, Aichi, and Yamanashi prefectures. At each of the five municipalities visited, courtesy visits to the mayors and exchange opinions were arranged. These interactions provided a highly valuable opportunity to further deepen understanding of Japanese local governance.
Vietnam is currently undergoing an unprecedented scale of mergers and restructuring of central and local government organizations, as well as local administrative units. We hope that the knowledge and insights gained through these training programs so far will contribute to the continued success and active roles of the participants as local leaders in the future.
