3R+Return activities in Kosrae State, the Federated States of Micronesia

J-PRISM has been supporting the FSM in setting up and operating the Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) for many years. Thanks to the citizen cooperation, many beverage cans and bottles are being brought to the collection center.
However, most of the FSM states face a challenge to find the international buyers for the collected PET bottles mostly because of the long-distance transportation arrangement from the islands.

In Kosrae, Kosrae Island Resource Management Authority (KIRMA) has been working on this challenge with J-PRISM3 expert as a pilot project and could ship out the first trial container to Taiwan to recycle the PET bottles there.

Kosrae State Governor, Honorable Tulensa W. Palik was present at the collection center to express his strong support for the activity.

The container was brought to the port and the journey to Taiwan began on 10 May 2025. We will report on the PET bottles from Kosrae that arrived in Taiwan next time!
