Advancing Healthcare Digitalization in Viet Nam with JICA – Telehealth Training in Japan

The Project for Strengthening the Capacity Development System for Health Professional through Tele-Health in Viet Nam, with the cooperation of the Japan Institute for Health Security (JIHS), conducted a Knowledge Co-Creation Program training in Japan from October 1 to 9, 2025. Eight participants from the Ministry of Health (MoH), including its central departments, the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Health, and provincial hospital took part in the program.

The training focused on Doctor-to-Doctor (D-to-D) tele-health, offering insights into Japan’s policies, systems, and challenges related to tele-health. Participants attended lectures by the Ministry of Health Labour and Welfare, the Japanese Telemedicine and Telecare Association, and others. The program also included field visits to Nagasaki Prefecture Tsushima Hospital and related community health facilities to observe tele-health practices.

During the action plan presentation held as part of the training, Mr. Duong Huy Luong, Deputy Director-General of Medical Service Administration-MoH, expressed appreciation and shared the plan to formulate the official circular on tele-health implementation in Viet Nam by early 2026, with JICA’s support. He emphasized that the success of this project is expected to enhance medical collaboration between urban and remote areas, ultimately improving access to quality healthcare for all Vietnamese citizens.

This training served as a valuable opportunity to enhance knowledge exchange on tele-health and strengthen international cooperation between Viet Nam and Japan. JICA continues to play a vital role in promoting the digital transformation of Viet Nam’s healthcare system.
