Training at Kyoto Prefectural University by Thai Researchers
As part of the project, three Thai researchers—Dr. Nuttapat Thiensuwan, Dr. Atikhun Chotirattachote, and Ms. Chanoknun Kalvibool (all from Chulalongkorn University)—participated in a short-term training program in Japan from mid to late November 2025.
The training was conducted at the Laboratory of Forest Resources Circulation, Division of Environmental Sciences, Graduate School of Life and Environmental Sciences, Kyoto Prefectural University (Prof. Hisashi Miyafuji). The program focused on the chemical characteristics of woody biomass and practical analytical methods. During the training, the participants learned fundamental and systematic techniques used in wood chemistry, including sample preparation for softwood and hardwood species, microscopic observation, extractive analysis, and analysis of lignin and cellulose components.
They also attended research seminars and exchanged views with Japanese researchers, deepening their understanding of advanced lignin utilization and new analytical and research approaches. In addition, field training at the university’s experimental forest provided hands-on experience in tree harvesting, processing, and storage, enhancing their understanding of woody biomass utilization from a resource-circulation perspective.
The knowledge and analytical skills acquired through this training are expected to contribute to the advancement of Japan–Thailand collaborative research and to the further development of biomass utilization technologies.
