Project News Volume 1
Avocado VC platform was conducted in Nakuru!

Fu Jambo! (Hello). This is a first newsletter from component 2 on SHEP Biz. We, component 2 is working together with component 1 and has two major themes on our activities. The first one is promotion of agribusiness, and the second is promotion of Value Chain (hereinafter VC) which solves challenges by looking at the process from production to consumption of commodities. 5 counties and the crops have already been selected as a target areas and VCs by the project survey. In this newsletter, we will report the VC platform in Nakuru county.

The VC platform was held on 25th November and 2nd December 2021 for avocado farmers, agri-business actors (aggregators / exporters, banks, etc.) and county staff in Nakuru county. The purpose of VC platform is to build relationships between farmers, agri-business actors, and county staff by making opportunity for interaction, and to share the challenges on each position by looking at the flow from production to consumption of avocado. We aimed to develop the action plan by discussing the challenges and their solutions, and support and cooperation we need.

Approximately 30 people participated in the VC platform in a day. Mr. Nabea, a head of component 2 explained the basic information of VC and how to develop an activity plan after self-introduction of each participant, introduction of SHEP Biz, and information sharing from farmers, exporters, and banks. Discussion was conducted from multiple point of view by sharing the issues and information that each participants had. As a result, each issue and their solution were organized, and the action plan was developed. we would like to further refine the developed action plan and carry out decided activities in Nakuru county from next phase, 2022.

In addition, chairperson, vice chairperson and secretaries, etc. were appointed by election at the VC platform. The selection of leaders has raised awareness as a team and attended farmers, county staff, and staff in private companies got more motivated. It is expected that the project will succeed by their effort under our tiny support.

We will hold a VC platform at the remaining 4 counties and carry out activities in sequence!

Well then! Siku njema! (Have a nice day!)
