Sensitization workshop targeting extension officers and farmer group representatives of the 2nd batch counties was conducted!

In September 2022, the Project conducted sensitization workshops for extension officers and farmer group representatives from the 2nd batch target counties. The sensitization workshop is an important activity that corresponds to the first step of the SHEP Approach, "selection of target farmers and sharing of goals".

At the workshop, the Project first explains how the SHEP Approach was born and developed, and what kind of activities are planned. After that, the Project asked participants to consider gender mainstreaming and disability mainstreaming that the Project believes important in this project through video, quizzes, etc. Finally, the Project introduced the voices of farmers who have participated in past SHEP projects, and asked the participants what they would like to achieve through the SHEP Approach. One representative of farmer group who participated in the workshop said, "I want to work together as a group to increase income, and I learned it is necessary to make a plan and carry out farming to achieve a goal."

The extension officers and representatives of the farmer groups who participated in the workshop will later share what they learned with the group members. Also, at that time, fill in a group profile and member list forms for each group and submit them to the Project. After compiling the submitted information, the Project found that the total number of target farmers for the 2nd batch was 2,072, 503 farmers under 35 years old (25% of the total), and 52 farmers with disabilities (2.5% of the total). The Project requested counties to select farmer groups that include vulnerable members such as youth, women, persons with disabilities and widows. Among 100 groups in the 2nd batch, there are 24 women's groups, 2 disability groups, and 2 widow groups.

Next, the Project will conduct a baseline survey to check the current situation regarding farmers' income and the application rate of crop production technique!
