Farmer Business Linkage Stakeholder (FABLIST) Forum was conducted!

The Project conducted Farmer Business Linkage Stakeholder (FABLIST) Forum in Murang'a county, Kandara Sub-County on 17th November 2022. The FABLIST forum is an important opportunity for farmers to exchange information with agriculture related business stakeholders in the area. A number of stakeholders such as agriculture input company, exporter, local bank providing loan to small scale farmers, officers responsible for supporting the Self-Help Group and Cooperative, participated in the FABLIST in Kandara.

One of the farmer groups participated in the FABLIST was a group of persons with disabilities. The group was established in 2015 consisting of 30 members, including persons with physical disabilities, intellectual disabilities and their family members. They grow horticulture crops such as Kales and Tomatoes, besides also engaging in various income-generating activities such as poultry farming, bead products, and shoe manufacturing. However, they face challenges such as lack of funds to purchase materials such as chicken feed and beads. They want to expand their farmland, but they cannot afford to purchase.

After FABLIST, I interviewed from the group, they said that the seed sales company they met today would provide training on cultivation techniques related to sowing the seeds they are selling and that the bank would explain in detail about the loan. The Project will follow up with the county government officials to see if the meeting with business stakeholders at the FABLIST will lead to future business for farmers.
