Introduction of Projects

Senior Volunteer Program – Tourism Promotion

Background of the Project:

Serbia has great touristic potential, but as a small country in competitive world, it needs support in finding eligible position and insure its place in travel itineraries. The National Tourism Organization of Serbia (NTOS), as governmental organization has main role in promotion and improving tourism in Serbia for both domestic and foreign market. All efforts of NTOS are focused on presentation of tourist advantages such as the country's geographical location, historical, cultural and natural identity of Serbia. Acquiring a number of tourists from Japan is one of NTOS current goals. Through Volunteer program, JICA will support NTOS activities in utilizing Serbian tourist advantages in the most appropriate way, especially in creating of the Joint tourism promotion strategy in Balkan Region. With strengthen of regional cooperation it is expected that current position of Serbia on Japanese tourism market, as well as position of other regional countries, will be improved.

Outline of the project

  • Project type: Citizen Participation (Volunteer Program)
  • Project objective: Improving position of Serbia as touristic destination on Japanese market
  • Project sites: Belgrade - Entire Serbia
  • Duration: December 2012 – June 2013
  • Executing Organization: National Tourism Organization of Serbia (NTOS)
  • Outputs:
    1) SWAT analysis of Serbian tourism targeting Japanese market
    2) Number of Japanese tourists in Serbia will take increasing trend
    3) Utilizing social media (Facebook, Twitter…) through young people from Belgrade (students with knowledge of Japanese language) will lead to tourists from Japanese market
    4) Regional Strategy
