Project for Improvement of Dushanbe International Airport

3) Project Budget:

2,27 billion Japanese Yen (approximately 20.4 mln. USD as of December 2017)

4) Project Duration:

August 2015 - August 2018

5) Target Area:

Dushanbe city

6) Counterpart Agency:

  • Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Tajikistan (MOT)
  • Dushanbe International Airport (DIA)

7) Project Objective:

To promote economic and trade development by upgrading aircraft departure/landing safety and efficiency, as well as air cargo handling efficiency at Dushanbe International Airport.

8) Project Scope / Activities:

  • To construct Cargo Terminal;
  • To install Instrument Landing System (ILS) and Precision Alert Lighting System (PALS);
  • To provide cargo handling equipment;
  • To support in development of manuals related to cargo handling;

9) Expected Results:

  • Cargo Terminal is constructed and necessary equipment is installed;
  • Handling and accepting capacity of air crafts is enhanced;

10) Beneficiaries:

The population of Tajikistan

11) Contributing to the NDS 2016-2030:

To ensure overcoming the communication deadlock and transforming the country into a transit point through:

  • Construction and rehabilitation of transport infrastructure;
  • Development of logistics for industrial zones aimed at economic growth, mainly through investment projects of national importance;

12) Contribution to SDGs:

  • To promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all (SDG - 8);
  • To build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation (SDG - 9);
