Notice of Project Delay due to COVID-19
"Thailand Pilot Project for Digital KAIZEN"
The result of Ideathon Seminar for Digital KAIZEN towards Industry 4.0 and the preparation status of the PoC project.

The result of Ideathon Seminar:

JICA held an Ideathon Seminar for Digital KAIZEN Towards Industry 4.0 in collaboration with four Thai governmental agencies, DEPA (Digital Economy Promotion Agency), MoI (Ministry of Industry), FTPI (Foundation for Thailand Productivity Institute), and NSTDA (Thailand National Science and Technology Development Agency), and three Thai educational institutes, TGI (Thai-German Institute), KMITL (King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang), and TNI (Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology) on November 29th 2019 at a conference room offered by DEPA (Chatuchak, Bangkok).

This was conducted as the 1st Edition event of "Thailand Pilot Project for Digital KAIZEN" inviting SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) of Thai manufacturing industry and SIs (system integrators) to consider and propose how to use ICT solutions for SMEs to digitalize KAIZEN process as the first step to Industry 4.0.

As a consequence, 6 SMEs and 3 SIs actively participated and many ideas / solutions for digital KAIZEN were presented in the event. We would like to express our gratitude to all the participants of the event.

Selection of PoC Proposal:

In the Ideathon Seminar, JICA expected the participants to make teams (one team consists of one SME and one SI) and submit proposals for a PoC (proof of concept). Then, one proposal would be selected by JICA and the team who submitted it could obtain an opportunity to conduct the PoC project funded by JICA for 2-3 months as the 2nd Edition event.

As a result, three proposals were submitted and after fair and careful consideration, the combined team of The Peace Canning (1958) Co., Ltd. and NEC Corporation (Thailand) Ltd. was selected in February 2020 since its proposal was suited most to what JICA wants to realize in its PoC project. In fact, it required a lot of time to select one as the three proposals were all splendid and appealing. We really appreciate all the efforts made by the companies who submitted the proposals.

Preparation Status of the PoC and Experience Sharing Seminar:

Although it was expected to conduct the PoC just after the first selected proposal, JICA now needs a couple more months for its preparation due to the effects of COVID-19. Besides, after the completion of the PoC project, JICA will conduct an Experience Sharing Seminar to share its results with Thai governmental organizations, educational institutes, and private companies (mainly manufacturers and SIs). We will post an update once the implementation plan of the PoC and schedule of the seminar are fixed.
