JICA is going to start two new important technical cooperation projects with Thailand's Ministry of Transport

For many years, JICA has cooperated with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) to implement a variety of projects in Thailand through grant aid, technical cooperation, and loans. As our new assistance to Thailand especially in the transport sector, JICA is going to provide technical cooperation to MOT for two important projects.

This year, 2020, JICA has already signed Record of Discussions with MOT for a road safety project in March, and with the Department of Highways (DOH) for capacity development on tunnel project management in September. Details of the two projects are as follows:

1. Project on Capacity Improvement for Road Traffic Safety Institutions and Implementation in Thailand
[MOT and JICA]
This project aims to improve the capacity of road traffic safety institutions in formulating and implementing comprehensive road traffic safety measures in order to reduce fatalities caused by road traffic accidents in Thailand. Three Challenges in Road Traffic Safety under the project are enforcement, engineering and education. The implementation period is three years and the project is scheduled to start at the end of 2020.

2. Project for Capacity Development on Tunnel Project Management in Thailand
[DOH and JICA]
This project aims to enhance the capacity for formulation and promotion of tunnel construction projects and to support the establishment of an organization responsible for mountain road tunnels in the Department of Highways. The implementation period is four years and the project is scheduled to start in early 2021.
