Istanbul Water Supply Project

Background and Objective

The demand of water is rapidly increasing in Istanbul, which is the center of business and the biggest city in Turkey, with the rapidly expanding population. This Project aims to address water shortage accompanied by increasing population in water-scarce Istanbul.

Project Description

Constructing a weir along the Melen River, 170km east of Istanbul, to transmit water to the distribution station in the European side, through a 180km pipeline (part of which runs through the Bosphorus Tunnel) via the newly-built water treatment plant in the Asian side.
