Activities in Turkey

School-based Disaster Education Project

Background and Objective

Since Turkey is located in the Anatolia peninsula, which is situated on the boundaries of Eurasian plate, African plate, and Arabian plate, Turkey is a disaster prone country. Therefore, Turkey is emphasizing disaster preparedness such as not only reinforcements of buildings but also countermeasures of soft-component, especially disaster education. Objective of the project is to enhance school-based disaster education in 10 pilot provinces in Turkey.

Project Description

The project will be implemented by the In-service Training Department of the Ministry of National Education to enhance school-based disaster education of teachers and school administrators through enhancement for the capacity of trainers and school teachers regarding disaster education, improvement of disaster education system, and improvement of risk management in primary and secondary schools in provinces of Marmara region, Bow and Duzce.
