Capacity Improvement Project on Seismic Observation

Background and Objective

Turkey is an earthquake-prone country due to its location on several plate boundaries. Seismic observation stations in Turkey are mainly under the responsibility of Presidency of Disaster and Earthquake Management and Bogazici University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute. Both organizations have their own seismic observation stations but their information exchange structure is not well established. This project aims to develop and efficiently integrate both systems by introducing the advanced seismic network system of Japan.

Project Description

This project aims to promote the establishment of a nationwide seismic network through the capacity development of human resources in the field of seismic observation recording system, data transfer, interpretation of seismic waves, source detection, earthquake hazard detection, preparation of magnitude dissemination map.
