Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS) for Urban Regional Development

Background and Objective

JICA implemented "Geologic Remote Sensing Project" with General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA) from 2000 to 2006 in order to upgrade the mineral research technology by utilizing remote sensing data of satellite. On the other hand, infrastructure works are rapidly progressing in each city of Iraq. Therefore, RS and GIS technology is widely preferred in order for the determination of the venue of proper civil work, and for urban and rural area development plan. This project aims to transfer the RS and GIS knowledge and experience of MTA, which are based on JICA's past support, to Iraq.

Project Description

In this Project, training program is organized in Turkey for Iraqi participants. This training program includes both theory and know-how of RS & GIS and also deepening on practical applicability so that participants can disseminate in order to contribute the socio-economic development of Iraq.
