Launch of the Project on Patient Safety

On the 24th of November 2021, the Ministry of Health (MoH) in Uganda and JICA officially launched "Project on Patient Safety Establishment through the 5S-CQI-TQM Project" at the 8th Annual National Health Care Quality Improvement Conference.

While officiating at the ceremony, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng the Minister of Health appreciated all participants and partners including JICA for the tremendous support rendered to MoH especially the new project on patient safety.

Mr. FUKUHARA Ichiro, the Senior Representative of JICA Uganda, led the JICA health team and made some remarks on the details and scope of the project, plus JICA's continued support and dedication to the Health sector in Uganda.

The new Project on patient safety is a five-year project starting November 2021 and will be implemented in all Regional Referral Hospitals, Naguru National Referral Hospital and Tororo General Hospital.

This is the first Project on the African continent to focus on Patient Safety and the main purpose is to establish a patient safety culture in the targeted hospitals in order to improve the quality of health care services through enhancement of 5S-CQI-TQM activities.

The Minister concluded by appreciating JICA and was delighted at the return of project experts, saying, "Thank you for bringing back TASEI!" Mr. TASEI Hiroshi is the Vice Chief Advisor for the project.
