JICA's JOCV program in Yemen has been progressing in a very successful way to the extent it could cover the three governorates of Sana'a the Capital, Aden & Taiz and it's planned for to expand to other governorates. This comes as Yemeni host organizations realized the importance of JOCV program in terms of contributing to the development of socio-economic aspects of Yemen. Henceforth, many JOCV programs targeted the fields where Yemen is in need for development. One of the most significant aspects of JOCV program is that JOCV could instill the spirit and sense of participation, ownership and responsibility in the hearts and minds of Yemeni counterparts.

The concept of JOCV program is that JOCV work fully and actively with Yemeni counterparts so as to give them "On Job Training", which gives Yemeni counterparts the opportunity to learn as much as possible from their Japanese friends and get the required skills duly transferred at home.
However, to further built up Yemeni society in a better way through exposing Yemeni counterparts to the experiences of other advanced or more developed countries, JICA dispatched some counterparts of JOCV to Japan and Syria, which helped in giving them a wider view of development and internalizing more concepts of self-development.
Many seminars, workshops, and other events organized by JOCV and/or by the participation of JOCV could transfer more knowledge and know-how to Yemenis whose outcomes are reflected in the change taking place in some Yemen institutions that adopted the principles established by JOCV.

Today, Yemeni counterparts, whose capacity is already built, are doing their best for their country utilizing those skills they got from JOCV, being tenacious of the concept of sustainability and bearing in mind their commitment to the development of their homeland and gratefulness to their friend teachers, JOCV.

As the echo of JOCV program is now resounding in Yemeni society, JICA, unfortunately, was obliged to suspend the JOCV program in Yemen till security circumstances get better and work environment for JOCV gets safer.
