Signing of Record of Discussions for the Republic of Indonesia: The Project for Strengthening Tropical Forest Resilience based on Management and Utilization of Genetic Resources Capable of Climate Change Adaptation

Jakarta, 31st March 2022, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) signed Record of Discussions (R/D) with Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), Republic of Indonesia for a Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) "The Project for Strengthening Tropical Forest Resilience based on Management and Utilization of Genetic Resources Capable of Climate Change Adaptation". The joint research is conducted under the framework of technical cooperation involving various University Researchers, and Government Officials from Japanese and Indonesian institutions. The aim of this project is that Genetic materials with higher adaptability to climate change and productivity are recommended to stakeholders in the forestry sector in Indonesia.

By the implementation of this project, we expect the benefits of the use of genetic materials with higher adaptability to climate change and productivity are widely recognized in Indonesia.

Implementing Agency Japanese Research Institutions: Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS), Indonesian Research Institutions: Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM)
Location Demonstration plots and sampling sites are in Special Region ofYogyakarta, Kalimantan Island, West Java, Central Java, and East Java.
Project Outputs
  1. Methodologies of reproducing genetic materials with higher adaptability to climate change and productivity are established.
  2. The guidelines for introducing the genetic materials with higher climate adaptability and productivity on suitable sites are prepared.
  3. Quality-enhancing effects of planting the genetic materials with higher adaptability to climate change and productivity on environment, economy and society are clarified.
  4. A report consisting of the finding from Output 1, Output 2 and Output 3 is prepared.
