In November 2023, the Prime Ministers of Japan and Vietnam agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity in Asia and the World, marking a significant milestone in the deepening of ties between the two nations.
In May 2025, General Secretary To Lam outlined four key pillars to support Vietnam’s future economic development:
1. Breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation;
2. International integration in the evolving global context;
3. Development of the private sector;
4. Legislative and enforcement reforms to meet the demands of national development in a new era.
Aligned with these priorities, JICA is working in close collaboration with Japanese industries, educational institutions, local governments, and civil society to comprehensively support Vietnam in building a fair and resilient society, with focus on following three strategic areas:
・Promoting growth and enhancing international competitiveness;
・Addressing vulnerabilities;
・Strengthening governance.
