Overview of JICA's Cooperation in Thailand

Third Country Training Programs in Thailand (TCTP)

1. Enhancing Women's Role in Rural Development

Upgrading knowledge and skills of extension workers in gender-responsive field

This course aims at empowering extension officers from South-east Asia and Africa with knowledge of, skills in, and attitudes towards enhancing women's role in rural development. As a result, women will be better integrated into rural development.


2. Sustainable Agricultural Production through Agricultural Extension Approaches

Improving the performance efficiency of agricultural extension officers in ASEAN member countries

    Department of Agricultural Extension (DOAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and National Agricultural Extension and Training Center (NAETC), Kasetsart University, Kampaengsaen Campus

The program will provide participants in ASEAN countries with an opportunity to learn, share and exchange experiences concerning sustainable agriculture with special focuses on farming systems, farm administration and management, marketing, and extension approaches for sustainable agricultural production with an awareness of resources and environment.


3. Diploma Course in Dermatology

Upgrading techniques and knowledge of dermatology among medical doctors from Asian and Pacific countries

    Institute of Dermatology, Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Health

Skin diseases are the third most common disease in the Asia region, next to internal and surgical diseases. However, there are not so many specialists in skin diseases.

The intensive 10 months diploma course will provide an opportunity to upgrade techniques and knowledge in the field of dermatology with basic sciences, clinical dermatology, advanced technology diagnostic approaches and management as well as research methodology.

The course is conducted with cooperation from Japanese professors of academic authority and senior Thai doctors with extensive clinical experience.

4. Agricultural Extension and Development for Africa

Acquiring effective extension methods, techniques, and tools for agricultural extension services by agricultural extension practitioners from Africa

    Department of Agricultural Extension (DOAE), Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, and National Agricultural Extension and Training Center (NAETC), Kasetsart University, Kampaengsaen Campus

This course aims at empowering policy makers and agricultural extension practitioners from African countries to develop the capacity of their extension officers in their own countries.


5. Advanced Freshwater Aquaculture

Exchanging ideas for sound aquaculture development in accordance with specific guidelines and establishing a network among participants

    Inland Aquaculture Research Institute (IARI), Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives

The program aims to upgrade advanced knowledge and techniques of freshwater aquaculture so that participants will be able to apply specific knowledge and practice relevant techniques in their countries.


6. The Essential Strategic Partnership in Tourism

Utilizing regional tourism marketing strategy for sustainable development

    Academic Service Center and Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Burapha University, Chonburi Province

The program will develop participants' capability to develop the regional tourism industry for sustainable economic, environmental, and social development. In addition, the program aims to promote further communication and cooperation among Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand.

7. Injury Prevention and Safety Promotion

Exchanging knowledge and experience among the participants for promoting mutual cooperation on traffic injury prevention in South East Asia

    Trauma and Critical Care Center, Khon Kaen Regional Hospital, Department of Medical Services, Ministry of Public Health

The purposes of the course is to transfer knowledge and understanding of the strategies and strategic plan for a traffic injury prevention and control program, including skills of pre-hospital care, hospital care and rehabilitation for traumatic patients.

8. International Training of the Trainers on Food Processing

Training South-east Asian people on village food processing, which will lead to the participants organizing training by themselves and transferring skills to other villagers in their respective villages in the future

    Faculty of Agro-industry, Chiang Mai University

The program provides opportunities to learn and observe actual practices of food processing methods implemented at the village level in rural areas and compare them to the procedures conducted in small-scale food industries.

9. Malaria Prevention and Control

Exchanging knowledge and experience among the participants' countries and strengthening the malaria control network, for better malaria control in this region

  • (2) Implementing Organization in Thailand

    Bureau of Vector Borne Diseases Control, Diseases Control Department, Ministry of Public Health

The program provides essential knowledge and skills on malaria prevention and control for malaria staff across the five greater Mekong Basin countries. The course includes analyzing malaria situation using evidence-based approaches, understanding key elements in malaria control, developing skills to appraise existing malaria control in different settings, and using problem-solving processes to initiate a control strategy.


10. Control Strategy and Mitigation Measures on Acid Deposition

Strengthening the understanding of control strategy and mitigation measures of acid deposition problems in the East Asian Region

    JFY 2007-JFY 2008

  • (2) Implementing Organization in Thailand

    Department of Environmental Quality Promotion (DEQP), and Pollution Control Department (PCD), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment

The purpose of the course is to enhance the knowledge and understanding of acid deposition problems as well as develop the abilities and skills in development of appropriate mitigation measures and control strategies for abatement of acid deposition in East Asia.


11. Reforestation and Extension Techniques for Foresters

Providing participants from the Indo-china countries with an opportunity to improve the techniques of forestry extension

  • (1) Term of Cooperation

    JFY 2007-JFY 2009

  • (2) Implementing Organization in Thailand

    The Royal Forest Department, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment

The participants will be expected to acquire techniques of forestry extension, nursery management, reforestation, planted tree farm management, sustainable utilization of wood from tree plantation, and timber market information management in order to contribute to encouraging local people's reforestation activities in the context of community-based forest management.

12. Modernization of Irrigation Water Management for Sustainable Development

Promotion of national and institutional co-operation among various institutions on water planning and operational water management

    JFY 2007-JFY 2009

  • (2) Implementing Organization in Thailand

    The Royal Irrigation Department, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperative

At the end of the course, the participants are expected to acquire knowledge and experience of irrigation water management for sustainable development, and enhanced skills of utilizing computers for efficient water management.
