Algeria

Algeria has been an important crossroad of the region, located in the Mediterranean area, the African Continent and the Arab world. It has the largest area in the continent, with natural gas and petroleum.
Thanks to the rich natural resources, economic growth in Algeria has been relatively stable and it is the 4th largest in the continent. However, the economy worsened due to decline in global oil prices since the second half of 2014. Now, the Algerian government is promoting economic structural reform with cooperation from the international community including Japan.
Since the 1980s, JICA has provided ODA loans for telecommunication fields and disaster recovery and has been implementing technical cooperation that contributes to disaster prevention fields and also industrial diversification in recent years. JICA will continue to support Algeria's sustainable economic growth with technical cooperation and financial cooperation especially in fields where Japan's knowledge can be utilized.
