Summary of the Project (Overall goal, project purpose, outputs)

  • Overall Goal:
    Community – Based Tourism (CBT) in the North region becomes one of the important tourism attractions for both domestic and international visitors in the Dominican Republic.
  • Project Purpose:
    The capacity and the coordination mechanism for facilitating the sustainable CBT development through Public – Private Participation (PPP) in the North region are enhanced.
  • Expected Outputs:
    (1) The current of the CBT and local resources in the North region is diagnosed through introducing and applying the participatory approach and in collaboration with institutions concerned.
    (2) The strategy and plans for promoting CBT for the North region is developed based on cases in Puerto Plata province and in the four Northwest provinces.
    (3) The activities of the regional and local action plan for promoting CBT in the North region are carried out.
    (4) The institutional arrangement for facilitating the CBT activities in the North region is established.

Highlights

Through the empowerment of the community and the private public sectors joint work, the Dominican Republic will be having a new tourist offer which at the same time will help improve the levels of income of the communities.
