Summary of the Project (Overall goal, project purpose, outputs)

  • Overall Goal:
    Maternal and neonatal mortality in Health Region III is reduced.
  • Project Purpose:
    The quality of antenatal care, postnatal care and newborn care provided by primary health facilities and UNAPs is improved.
  • Expected Outputs:
    (1) Knowledge and practice of health personnel of primary health facilities and UNAPs are improved.
    (2) Referral and counter referral between regional, provincial and municipal hospitals and primary health facilities (e.g. UNAPs) are improved.
    (3) The proactive capability to prevent incidents and accidents in medical facilities is strengthened.

Highlights

  • This project has taken advance of the results of other projects undertaken by JICA.
  • The involvement of the partners at the local level, who have empowered and take part of it with much enthusiasm is one of the aspect to point out.
  • The project has served to bind at the regional level the key actors of the health sector in the Dominican Republic, working as a team for the achievement of the objectives of the project.
