Message from the Chief Representative

With the dispatch of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers in 1991, the JICA Office was established in Ecuador. Reflecting the expansion of our technical cooperation in the country, the Technical Cooperation Agreement between Ecuadorian Government and Japanese Government was signed in June 1992, which lead us to open a new JICA Office in Ecuador, which covers not only the dispatch of volunteers but also overall technical cooperation projects. For the further development of our cooperation, JICA HQ enhanced our office duties and responsibilities in February 2018.

The top priority issues in our cooperation are "correction of disparities in society" and "environmental conservation and disaster risk reduction". We have been tackling the issues with efficient and effective implementation of cooperation programs. We are aiming for the comprehensive and broad cooperation, actively engaged in collaboration with private sectors and NGOs, organically bonding the technical cooperation, volunteer dispatch, grant aid and ODA loan programs, while seeking for the collaboration with other donors focusing on their actual trends.

The year 2018 marked the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Ecuador. JICA will do our best to promote and strengthen our good bilateral relationships.

Chief Representative,
JICA Ecuador Office
