Project to Strengthen the Capacity to Measure the Ozone Layer and UV Radiation in Southern Patagonia and the Projection towards the Community
Background and Objective
The objectives of this project are to build an ozone layer observation network in Argentina and Chile for increasing observation capacity, and to establish a warning system of dangerous ultraviolet levels for the resident. With this reinforced infrastructure in place for observing the southern region of South America, precision observation data can be utilized for activities focused on preventing ozone layer breakdown.

Project Summary
Under this project, ozone layer observations will be continued and improved using a lidar (laser radar) in Río Gallegos, and data comparisons will be made, which are obtained with various devices such as lidars, ozonesondes, and Brewer spectrophotometers.
Project Highlights
Studies of ozone hole generation are carried out as the only terrestrial ozone hole observatory in South America. Ozone holes occur in different places according to the time of year and weather. This project will enable observations of ozone holes over Argentina and Chile.
