2025.10.16

From November 10 to 21, 2025, the 30th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP30) will be held in Belém, Brazil.

In conjunction with this event, the JICA Brazil Office, in collaboration with the Tomé-Açu Mixed Agricultural Cooperative (CAMTA) and the Tomé-Açu Cultural and Agricultural Promotion Association (ACTA), will host the Tomé-Açu Agroforestry Tour.

Agroforestry is an approach rooted in traditional farming practices from various regions around the world. Among them, the model independently developed by Japanese-Brazilian farmers in Tomé-Açu, Brazil — the Tomé-Açu Agroforestry System (SAFTA) — has been internationally recognized as a pioneering practice of sustainable agriculture. This sustainable practice combines various agricultural crops to regenerate the forest, preserve the ecosystem, and guarantee income for producers.

Through this tour, participants will have the opportunity to experience firsthand the concept of “Agroforestry: Agriculture that Creates Forests – Coexisting with the Amazon Rainforest.”
