The deployment of JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers to Djibouti began in July 2000, and a cumulative total of 171 people have been dispatched (as of April 2025).

We are engaged in a wide variety of on-the-ground activities in Djibouti City and other major regional cities. The main activities are focused on the priority areas of the Japanese government's assistance to Djibouti, including support for improving basic education (science, math education, physical education, etc.), youth development (community development, youth activities, judo, etc.), support for improving medical services (nurses, public health nurses, etc.), human resource development for industrial diversification (welding, clothing, etc.), and refugee support in strengthening the stability of the region. ), and refugee assistance in strengthening local stabilization.

Although small in scale, this is the only volunteer project by another donor government in our country, and we continue to provide support at the grassroots level.
