2025.07.10
July 10, 2025, marks the 25th anniversary of JICA's Overseas Cooperation Volunteers program in Djibouti!
Since 2000, over 170 volunteers have worked alongside the people of Djibouti in various fields, including education, health, sports, and community development.
JICA's Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) program began in 1965 and celebrates its 60th anniversary this year.
Volunteers live and work in local communities, applying their expertise in schools, hospitals, government ministries, and community organizations.
These activities of JOCV represent a community-based development approach that fosters trust and solidarity with local people.
“The JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers program is not merely technical cooperation; above all, it is an encounter between people belonging to two nations.”
— Kotohi Inoue, Chief Representative JICA Djibouti Office
As these words indicate, the presence of the Volunteers symbolizes the cooperation and friendship between Djibouti and Japan.
Beyond volunteer activities, JICA continues to support Djibouti's sustainable growth and the building of a resilient society through the development of social and economic infrastructure and technical cooperation.
