Visit by Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Eri Arfiya, Djibouti Coast Guard

2025.05.04

On May 4, 2025, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Arfiya Eri visited Djibouti and inspected a 35-meter patrol vessel provided to the Djibouti Coast Guard under JICA’s Grant Aid Project for “the Enhancement of ability in maritime safety and security”.

Djibouti’s territorial waters—particularly the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the gateway to the Red Sea—face serious challenges such as piracy, illegal migration, poaching, smuggling, and maritime accidents involving refugees. Strengthening the patrol system of the Djibouti Coast Guard is therefore critical for regional security and safety.

JICA, in collaboration with the Japan Coast Guard, continues to support the Djibouti Coast Guard in building its operational capacity, contributing to safer seas and enhanced maritime security.
